Renjith
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kunithala Ranjith (born 1964), often credited simply as Ranjith, is a popular Indian screen writer and film director in Malayalam cinema[1]. Ranjith's entry into films was accidental. Alex Kadavil, late theatre director and film producer, Ranjith’s close friend and classmate at the School of Drama, Thrissur instilled cinema into him. After his graduation from School of Drama, he and a group of juniors, produced a film, `Oru Maymasa Pulariyil', which was written by him and directed by V.R. Gopinath.
He entered the major league with Devasuram directed by IV Sasi. After writing successful masala potboilers such as Aaram Thamburan, Narashimham and Valyettan, he turned director with Ravanaprabhu, the sequel to Devasuram, in 2001. His other films include Nandanam, Mizhi Randilum, Black, Kaiyoppu, and Thirakkatha. In 2008, he acted the lead role in Jayaraj'sGulmohar[2]. He also had done the central character in Edward Bond’s ‘The Bundle,’ translated into Malayalam by Vayala Vasudevan Pillai, and directed by Alaknanda Samarth, a theatre director from London. He had also worked as an actor when one of his seniors Ramesh, directed Henrik Ibsen’s ‘Ghost.’ V.K. Prakash also made him act in one his advertisements. [3]
